Octal Time app for iPhone and iPad
Developer: Stuart Woolley
First release : 02 Apr 2010
App size: 848 Kb
Octal Time uses a base-8 system (digits 0-7). The day is divided into 32,768 parts for a total of 5 octal digits.
The right-most digit updates about every 2.6 seconds (half the speed of hexadecimal time).
The day begins at 00000, midday is 40000 and the octal second before midnight is 77777.
See the octal time live on your desk, or carry it around in your pocket to...
* Amaze friends with your understanding of advanced temporal concepts
* Learn how to quickly work out actual time by converting quickly from base 8 to base 10
(or just peek at the real clock...)
* Feel unusual how octal seconds seem somewhat slower than normal seconds, and even slower than hexadecimal seconds! (1 octal second is approximately 2.64 normal seconds)
* Have something to talk about whilst passing the time
* Pass the time, literally!
The application includes a mode whereby you can leave your device powered on and the time will be continually displayed.
Never be late for futuristic temporal appointments again, especially in Universes that use octal time or in societies in which their whole mathematical system is based on the number 8 and where they probably have 8 fingers. Or tentacles.
* Includes funky temporal (yet retro) type graphical interface as standard
(We have other Time applications, including Hex Time)
